tasks like playing chess are far from our evolutionary adaptations so computers beat us at chess early on
tasks like driving ( navigating terrain ) are closer to our evolutionary adaptation so it’s taking computers longer to catch up …
but ultimately they will beat us at everything EXCEPT telling whether a girl is cute, because by definition a girl is cute when a human thinks she is cute …
which is great because that means AI will actually allow us to be more human by freeing us from more robotic work …
.Then more pressure, financial and otherwise to not have kids,
Just consume, consume, consume…become blobs at home…
while others work.
Generally speaking the value an average person can generate for a business in the future will be so low that it will be easier to just pay them to stay home, which is what AOC suggested.
Is this a politically stable set-up?
Immigration will reach all-time highs to get on that UBI list.
And the demand for greater payments will be an ever-present election slogan…
You think the Metaverse (if it ever comes to fruition) will be enough to keep people sated?
we already have Universal Basic Income. why do you think Black Women have government jobs where they do nothing ? The jobs are fake - they’re really getting paid because they’re too worthless to do any real work. UBI would simply mean these women stay at home, which would actually reduce stress on public transportation and so on.
as for how to control mass immigration - you just need to destroy the quality of life enough
lockdowns, inflation etc …
there was a meme on Gab recently about Ukrainian refugees moving back to Ukraine from UK because UK sucks …
3D printing is bullshit for the most part, but it’s an older book - back then 3D printing was all the hype.
which makes me wonder if Schwab is as smart as he thinks he is … i knew 3D printing was bullshit from day one - took everybody else another decade to figure it out …
i mean 3D printing is actually great for people like me who like to design novel things for fun, but it’s useless for mass scale industrial manufacturing.
the problem with 3D printing isn’t that it doesn’t work ( it does ). the problem is it’s the most inefficient way to produce almost anything.
the other stuff ( not the 3D printed stuff ) is probably happening …
processing data is not an issue. silicon chips are made from silicon. wires can be made from aluminum. those are 2nd and 3rd most abundant elements on the planet after Oxygen.
Silicon is 30% of earth crust. Carbon is 0.03%
of course the chip isn’t pure silicon, actually electronics use a lot of precious materials such as gold but regardless i literally never heard anybody even suggest we might run out of processing capacity for any reason ever …
although we actually did with mining bitcoin but that was a self-inflicted wound. the code was literally designed to waste processing power. Vitalik fixed this idiocy.
3D printing is extremely slow, raw materials expensive and resulting products heavy and fragile.
3D printing could be literally life saving in a setting such as a space ship where you can’t just click “buy” on Amazon and have the thing you need delivered to you the next day. it is also great for inventors who can make a prototype and demonstrate it to investors in order to secure millions of funding needed to set up proper manufacturing.
Shift 19: 3D Printing and Manufacturing
The tipping point: The first 3D-printed car in production
By 2025: 84% of respondents expected this tipping point to have occurred
Shift 20: 3D Printing and Human Health
The tipping point: The first transplant of a 3D-printed liver
By 2025: 76% of respondents expected this tipping point to have occurred
Shift 21: 3D Printing and Consumer Products
The tipping point: 5% of consumer products printed in 3D
By 2025: 81% of respondents expected this tipping point to have occurred
Seems straight from Reddit futurology…
But guns worry him…not sure why…lots out there now…and the people are not using them to disrupt his plans.
Negative impacts
– Global and regional supply and logistics chain: lower demand resulting in job losses
– Gun control: opening opportunities for printing objects with high levels of abuse, such as guns
You already know…the 5Cs (credit cards, cars, computers, CCTV, cellphones) plus the goodies he has in mind in the shifts - internet of things, implantable tech etc…
in the movie “Possessor Uncut” ( director is the son of the “Cosmopolis” director ) one of the characters has a job where they log into your webcam to collect information and it shows disgusting old people masturbating and so on - they have no idea they are being spied on - it’s a horror movie / sci-fi about near future. lots of gore. i probably reviewed it.
