my suburban development has a clubhouse with a gym, heated indoor pool with transparent roof and walls, a separate fully outdoor pool, jacuzzi, billiards, tennis and on and on and on - games i never even heard about ! This clubhouse is also within walking distance from any home in the development ( with protected sidewalks ) but also accessible by bike and car with a giant parking lot that is never more than half full. we have bicycle parking as well. personally i never use the clubhouse because i’m better than everybody else - they don’t deserve to be graced with my presence - but if i wanted to get to know my neighbors the clubhouse is literally designed exactly for that.
and yet FuckCars thinks that a motherfucking folding chair on a staircase acting as a “Main Socializing Space” is something to be celebrated rather than a sad, pathetic joke that leaves you unsure whether to laugh or cry.

Why would anyone use public transportation when it takes 5x as long to get somewhere as it would take by driving?
The problem isn’t that cars are expensive, or that public transportation isn’t very efficient. The problem is that everything is so much further away than it needs to be that people have to use one or the other to get anywhere.
Design cities sensibly and people won’t have to use vehicles so much. When they do use vehicles it is painless and efficient.
And yes, cars are a money pit.
In finance, a car is what you call a liability. That means that they cause you to lose money over time. Owning one is expensive and requires you to constantly throw your money away on gas, maintenance/repairs, insurance, tolls, etc. At the same time it depreciates in value, so you lose money when you resell it. This is money you essentially flush down the toilet when you buy a car. You don’t get it back.

It is for this reason. I am rich because I am good with money. I wasn’t born rich. I became rich because I understood how money works.
People have always wondered why I have so much money. “Where did it come from? This guy is a lazy bum, so why is he loaded?” These are the same people who spend all of their money on bullshit like restaurants, travel, entertainment, rent, cars, etc. They piss all of their money away and have nothing to show for it, and then wonder why they don’t have any money and why people like me do. It’s not that hard to grasp; people just have zero understanding of the matter.
Money/economics are something about which we learn basically nothing in school in America. That is by design. The education system is structured to turn people into good obedient employees and wageslaves who can be trusted to do all the grunt work that keeps society running. If you teach your slaves how money works and how easy it is to get out of this system then you wouldn’t have enough idiots to keep showing up to their crappy jobs every day for a paycheck.
I never learned about it in school. In fact I never took an economics class until college, and I never went to class. I just took the class because I had to take something like it. I did the homework and crammed for the tests and passed with flying colors. Economics, or at least introductory economics, is extremely easy to understand if you have a lick of common sense. In fact, most of the things on the test were so straightforward that you didn’t even have to have gone to class or studied at all to figure out the answer.
An economics class doesn’t teach you about money anyway. No class really teaches you the ins and outs of personal finance.
The people like me who went through our education system and came out understanding money only came out that way because we are actually able to think independently and apply our faculties of reason to the world and our lives. It is staggering how many people are not like us and don’t think about anything at all unless instructed by school or work. Money was something about which I always had an intuitive understanding, and my understanding of the game developed over time as I thought about it more. I just thought about it. I didn’t take some gay class and try to get an A like most people have to do to learn anything.
Anyway, I am rich in part because I don’t spend my money on stupid shit like expensive cars. I spend it on things that either make more money or hold their value. It is only when I have so much money that a new car is as expensive to me as a hot dog is to the average person that I will think about buying one.

Your car probably gets no more than 30 mpg and the only reason you’re not constantly paying mechanics to fix it is because you barely drive it.
used cars make financial sense when you don’t drive them, because the cost of ownership of a used car is in repairs. if you don’t drive it - it doesn’t need repairs. the cost of ownership of a new car is in depreciation ( due to passing of time ). so if you don’t drive much a used car makes more sense. but if a you drive a lot it makes more sense to have a car that is safe, efficient and has a warranty - in other words a new car. i also get a free loaner whenever i need service or repairs.
but the NUMBER ONE money saving tip is - buy a paid membership at a porno site.
