yeah well i have to be honest i don’t know anything about Quantum computing powered AI
thanks for making me feel like a Boomer though, LOL
this stuff is moving very fast and leaving dinosaurs like me in the dust
i keep saying i will brush up on this stuff then i just go pull up some weeds from the lawn instead
but it’s been raining 2 days in a row so i actually got a chance to read that article
i had no idea Quantum computing based AI was even a thing until i read it
the article seems fairly well written - i don’t think i am able to add anything to it because it’s outside of my area of expertise
my understanding was that the purpose of quantum computing is mainly to break encryption such as what is used by cryptocurrencies for example, but as i said, i know almost nothing about quantum computing …
clearly quantum computing is not necessary to replace human intelligence because human brains work on regular electrochemical signals - nothing quantum in our brains.
but can quantum computing be used to create some kind of new form of intelligence ? i have no idea.
as for the music itself, it sounds fairly normal and as the article explains the AI mostly just reshuffled the artist’s own music. they didn’t even train the AI on any outside music ( except artist’s own ) for “ethical” ( copyright ) reasons.
one thing interesting mentioned was that the track also has a real-time version that is continuously generated like a radio station, as opposed to being recorded. now THAT is something new for sure …
imagine an AI DJ that just streams continuously 24/7 365 days a year … continuously trained on every new track as it comes out and incorporating them into the mix …
although artists may get to keep their jobs for a while DJs seem to be nearing extinction … there is no reason why even current level AI couldn’t replace DJs because reshuffling and recombining existing datasets is what current gen AI is all about and that’s what DJs do as well except AI would be 100 times more efficient at it …
just a side note > most DJs nowadays at big concerts / festivals just send in their pre-recorded sets so the light shows are pre arranged properly in sequence with the music - so they literally just stand there and pretend to be DJing.
interesting LOL
yeah i am not really keen on watching anybody live. it’s kind of ridiculous that all these acts like Metallica are still touring when i thought they were already old when i saw them live back in High School. but in the age of Streaming it seems artists now have to rely more on touring to make money.
when i use Spotify or even YouTube often it says on the bottom or the side that the artist is touring, the dates, locations, buy tickets etc. it’s crazy because these are all bands that are like 20+ years old and they’re all touring all the time.
i do see the value of dance clubs though obviously. because some things just go together like loud music, drugs, alcohol and partying with hot chicks. IIRC research shows that the volume level people prefer increases with amount of alcohol consumed, and also amount of alcohol consumed increases with volume level as well - so it’s a positive reinforcement loop where people just drink more and more and music plays louder and louder until everybody is totally trashed with ears ringing, vomiting, passing out and getting arrested.
this is kind of an issue i am facing my speaker design - i can make it sound audiophile up to and past rock concert sound pressure levels but reality is people only crave those pressure levels when they are either drunk, high or have contact high from being part of a large crowd. nobody would use those sound pressure levels at home. not sober anyway. and i don’t really believe in using drugs / alcohol while alone at home.
it’s kind of the same issue as putting 2,000 hp in a road car. what is anybody supposed to do with it ? on the track - sure.
VolksWagen Group is the most obvious example of a company that needs to do a delicate balancing act between all the different brands and models in their portfolio. Every customer is told their product is designed to be the most ( insert characteristic ) possible and that it was some clever engineering that allowed it to be 5% more ( insert characteristic ) than previous model. but reality is the same company made cars that were 200% more ( insert characteristic ) and they did it 20 years ago already but those were sold under another brand that the company pretends isn’t designed by the same exact people.
this is why Tuners are able to get 100 or so extra HorsePower out of most Turbo cars by just reprogramming some chip - because the manufacturers are lying through their teeth about all the “engineering” that allowed them to get 5% more HP this model cycle than last. they could have given you more HP anytime they wanted but they are saving that for some other brand, or some special edition, or they just plain don’t want to market the vehicle as a sports car because then they will also have to upgrade things like brakes, tires, suspension etc. and then it will actually put off the customers who don’t want stiff ride or $2,000 tires that only last 10,000 miles.
this is the struggle with speakers too. it is easy to design for more performance - but does it make sense ? would it make sense to sell a Toyota Camry that can accelerate to 300 mph in 3 seconds and costs $10 million ? would anybody buy one ?
i posit that it would be easier to make such a car than to sell it. same with speakers. however if you know how to make it and are able to do it i think you should, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. because not everything is about money.
money is a means to an end. in most cases money is the most certain path to happiness, but if you can reach happiness directly it would be foolish not to just because there is no money in it.
IMO …
