5 minute charging
well it isn’t really any kind of new tech it’s just a different level of performance …
but it’s not a small improvement - it’s 3X the charging power - from the best Sedans in the west ( like Taycan ) charging at about 1/3 Mega-Watt to full Mega-Watt speed.
and the fact that it could sustain that Mega-Watt for a while means they could have designed it for an even higher peak but they just wanted 1 Mega-Watt.
the main issue with EVs is that in an emergency like Hurricane you will get lines for charging stations so long that people will start killing each other once some Nigger tries to cut you off in a line ( and yes a Nigger DID cut me off in a line for gas during hurricane in Florida ).
a gas pump takes 2 minutes to fill a car, while current EV stations take 15+ minutes. this is an order of magnitude difference that will bite you in the ass when you run into a line.
5 minutes is still 3X longer than pumping gas but when you consider that you have to spend time to park the car, get out, make payment etc. the actual time to fill up a gas car isn’t 2 minutes - it’s probably closer to 5 minutes, so if you add 3 extra minutes to this you’re still in the same ballpark ( 5 min vs 8 min ) and it finally becomes a viable alternative.
i have driven several EVs including Porsche Taycan based Audi E-Tron GT and EVs really are on another level when it comes to acceleration but charging them is a pain. that was actually the main issue with test driving them - finding one with a charge. most of the ones dealers had were in limp mode due to empty battery.
if this Mega-Watt charging speed makes its way to America ( and it has to be supported by both the car AND the charging infrastructure ) i am switching.
note however that the Chinese car had LFP batteries which are heavy and have low energy density compared to more expensive batteries used in the west. but charging speed is more important than range. Chinese understand that because they have high IQs. Americans are dumb animals and will take a while to figure this out, but that’s OK - i can use Plug-in Hybrids while Americans are struggling to figure this one out.
