very disappointed LOL.
Harari was supposed to be this supervillain but he’s just a nice guy who loves watching Disney cartoons.
interesting takeaways for me:
1 - he doesn’t own a cell phone
2 - he spends 2 months every year in complete isolation to “meditate”
3 - makes a distinction between “artificial intelligence” ( AI ) and “artificial consciousness” ( AC )
i think this AI vs AC is very important distinction. for example @kanyewest thinks that AI will “always be artificial” and will “never be real intelligence” … that’s a very vague way of speaking …
on other hand Harari is much more clear in that he says AI is everywhere but AC still doesn’t exist …
i agree 100% and it’s a very clear way to think about it. computers can outperform people in MOST tasks already, yet they completely lack what we like to call consciousness …
in part they lack consciousness because we don’t fully understand it and thus can’t recreate it and in part because it is simply not necessary for machines to have consciousness in order to serve us …
but that doesn’t mean their intelligence is “not real” as @kanyewest believes …
Harari says machines may or may not ever have consciousness but they are certainly going to far surpass our intelligence very soon, which i agree with …
so i thought that was good, and that was towards the end of the interview …
