Unfortunately i was right ( E 53 AMG Wagon )

when i learned that car was coming i said a lot of people are waiting for a car like that ( myself included / not that i can afford it )

well guess what … even though the wagon is only $5,000 more in MSRP than sedan when you look at actual market prices it is currently going for $40,000 more than sedan because yes in fact people were waiting for a car like this and there aren’t enough of them so dealers are marking them up like crazy …

it is literally so expensive with the markups that you’re better off buying a Porsche Panamera because a year from now when the demand is satisfied that markup will disappear and you will have paid $110,000 for a car that is worth $70,000 after one year of use. in other words you will have paid $3,000 per month to drive it.

basically you would be better off buying any other car pretty much.

Volvo CEO said Wagons are making a comeback. Volvo has basically exited the Wagon segment due to Total Wagon Death in America but supposedly the pendulum is about to swing back.

and it seems to be happening. M5 came as a wagon, now E53 … more Wagons could be coming.

the fact they’re coming means it would be idiotic move to buy one now with the insane markups …

BMW M5 Touring ( wagon ) also seems to be marked up right now.

so we finally have Wagon alternatives to Porsche Panamera but it will take some time for the prices of these lesser wagons to differentiate themselves from Porsche because not enough of them have gone on sale yet to bring prices down.

I hope so – that’s one part of the American auto market that I genuinely missed from the ‘90s-’00s, when at least every American and European maker had wagon models in the USA.
