NASA WorldView EarthData

this is a MASSIVE resource

it is similar to windy.com but you don’t have to pay for premium features

on the flip side it’s a bit harder to use but it’s worth the effort to learn

what i am currently using it for is checking historic ocean temperatures to see which parts of Florida have warm enough water to swim at which time of year

there is a huge 10 degree Celsius ( almost 20F ) difference in coastal ocean temperatures in different parts of Florida in January and February !

you could swim in Miami in February but you would freeze in Jacksonville

on other hand there is almost no difference in water temperature in July

NASA WorldView EarthData shows you ocean temperature map of ENTIRE PLANET that you can zoom and read actual temperature and you can go back to any day in history ( like last winter, of two winters ago etc. ) to see what the temperature was on that day

invaluable resource

for example i wonder how many people know that in July you can swim in the ocean in NYC but it’s too cold to swim in Los Angeles.

Cali beaches are for surfing only - too cold to swim !
