so i got into a bit of a flame war on NOSTR. it all started when i watched this video:

it pissed me off because i am tired of hearing low-IQ boomers say shit like this so i posted the following on NOSTR:

Scotty is a Mechanic and sees car design exclusively through the lens of how often they break and how easy they are to fix. To Scotty all cars are the same - they either run or they don’t - that’s all. Scotty insists that Toyota is the best car ( because it breaks the least, and there is nothing else to consider ).

As another example Scotty on his channel promoted a Bluetooth speaker shaped like a soda can that you put into your cupholder and he said with this speaker you don’t need to fix your car stereo anymore. So to Scotty the sound of something like 1,500 watt 25 speaker surround sound system is the same as the sound of a battery powered Bluetooth speaker in your cupholder. It either works or it doesn’t when you’re an old, ugly, deaf and blind Boomer Mechanic dumb fuck.

I had the same experience calling a TV repair shop operated by a Boomer - he asked me how much i paid for the TV and when i told him he said something along the lines of no TV can be worth that much money and that i got ripped off ( i actually got my TV at 60% off MSRP on Black Friday ). Needless to say I will be getting my TV repaired by somebody else.

The subhuman dumbfuck Boomer repairman mind simply cannot comprehend that some things are better than others and it’s not just a matter of whether they work or not.

back to the attack by “Some Guy”

ah yes i love being lectured by Plumbers, Mechanics, Farmers and other dumb fucks about how they are smarter than Engineers because they didn’t need to go to no stinking University and have more hours of experience using a wrench.

guess what ? i spoke to Mechanics and never had trouble understanding anything they said. but a mechanic wouldn’t be able to understand most of what i have to say even about their own profession, because IQ is a thing.

so anyway the argument “Some Guy” makes is that cars should be kept simple to keep them reliable whereas my argument to him is that reliability can be designed and engineered and simplicity is no guarantee of reliability.

Okay …

Phones and Electric Cars both use Lithium Ion Batteries but for some reason they last 2 years in a phone and 8 years in a car ? What could be the reason for the discrepancy ?

Is a car application less demanding than phone application ? Actually it is the exact opposite - car application is BY FAR more demanding - subject to extreme power demands and extreme temperatures. Yet the battery still lasts 8 years in a car versus 2 years in a phone - why ?

The answer is simple - phone warranty is 2 years while EV battery warranty is 8 years. In both cases the battery lasts the length of the warranty because it is DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED to last exactly the length of time the warranty lasts.

the reason phone warranty is 2 years is because the installment plan for phones is 2 years and once you paid off the phone they want it to break so you buy a new one.

the reason EV battery warranty is 8 years is because California made it a law that EV batteries must have 8 year warranty.

here is another example … everybody knows that Toyota engines last longer than BMW engines and most people assume that this is because BMW engines are more complex … but is that really the reason ?

it’s a channel of a guy who buys dead engines and tears them down for parts to sell on eBay. i must have watched about 20 hours worth of his videos so far, mostly of dead BMW and Porsche Engines and some trends are emerging …

most of the dead BMW engines haven’t had their oil changed …

dead Audi engine was tuned …

dead Porsche engine came from a car that was tracked …

and so on …

basically most of these engines died due to ABUSE.

i went to read the comments and some reject was bragging that he never changes oil on his BMWs ( BMW drivers are notoriously assholes )

but there was something even more revealing …

Toyota recommends 5,000 mile oil change intervals ( Scotty Kilmer recommends 3,000 miles ). Whereas BMW tried recommending 15,000 mile intervals and when the engines were failing prematurely they revised it to 10,000 miles … " I Do Cars " recommends ignoring BMW’s recommendation and changing the oil every 5,000 miles ( like what Toyota recommends ).

essentially the marketing teams at BMW etc. tell people that Synthetic Oil is so advanced you can run it 3X to 5X longer without oil change compared to Toyota … but that’s just a lie.

in reality BMW simply knows their customers CAN’T BE BOTHERED to change the oil so they tell you to change the oil once a year because after 5 years the BMW buyer will just get a new car …

Toyota buyer … is a different animal …

If you ever drove across the continent and you drive fast you know it is always Toyotas that are the slow moving cars that slow everybody down - it’s never BMWs.

Toyota drivers drive slower and change oil more frequently than BMW drivers.

That isn’t the only reason Toyotas last longer of course !

so the question is - if you changed oil in a BMW every 3,000 miles like Scotty Kilmer recommends ( instead of every 20,000 miles like real BMW owners do ) would it last 250,000 miles like a Toyota ?

the answer is NO.

Toyotas are specifically bought for their reliability by people who intend to maximize this reliability and keep the car for a very long time.

BMWs are bought by people who want the latest and flashiest car, have plenty of money, and will get something new the second the warranty runs out ( at the latest ) and probably a lot earlier than that.

there is no sense for BMW in making cars that last 20 years when nobody buys a BMW to keep it for more than 5 years.

and so BMW makes engine parts out of plastic that disintegrates from engine heat and so on because THEY DON’T GIVE A FUCK. they know the plastic will last the length of the warranty and that’s good enough for them.

THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH COMPLEXITY.

BMWs don’t last because they don’t need to. same as cell phone batteries.

the reason for the complexity is EUROPEAN EMISSIONS REGULATIONS that must be reconciled with customers demanding that cars have more and more power …

making more and more power while producing less and less emissions can only be accomplished by increasing complexity ( unless you go full EV ).

dumbfucking retarded mechanics and boomers think German Engineers are too stupid to understand the value of simplicity - they understand it very well. “KISS” ( keep it simple stupid ) is one of the most fundamental principles of engineering and certainly every senior engineer at BMW or Mercedes understands it.
